What is Sigma Psi Zeta?

Sigma Psi Zeta Sorority, Inc. is a multicultural Asian-interest sorority founded at the State University of New York at Albany on March 23, 1994. Today, it has grown to become one of the most extensive and vibrant Asian-interest sororities in the the nation. SYZ aims to promote the understanding of Asian/Asian-American culture and multiculturalism though leadership, outreach, and most importantly, the bonds of sisterhood.  Through a network of highly motivated and open-minded individuals, the sorority lends structure and support to the sisters who share this vision. As individuals, as an organization, and as members of our various communities, we strive to be the best we can be and embody the ideals of Sigma Psi Zeta.

Alpha Iota Charter

The Alpha Iota Charter of Sigma Psi Zeta (ΣΨΖ) began as the first Asian-Interest sorority in the Panhellenic Council at the University of California, Berkeley. We are currently apart of the Multicultural Greek Council. In the spring of 2014, a group of young undergraduate women came together in hopes of forming a long-lasting friendship.  Away from home for the first time, the sisters longed for a companionship that would bring them close to each other and wanted to establish an organization that would allow them to share their beliefs of the development and empowerment of Asian/Asian-American women, and allow them to push themselves outside of their boundaries. They envisioned a family of sisters that would support each other and help each other grow as students, people, and women.

Beliefs

Our vision is to become an international organization uniting the sisters to follow the code of loyalty, allegiance, and dedication.

Our mission is to promote unity among women and the awareness of the Asian/Asian-American culture and heritage.

Our goal is to best demonstrate sisterhood and allegiance by merging all efforts and interests to provide an invaluable experience for the sisters and services to the local communities and the community at large.

The Ten Rays of sisterhood

When our sorority first began, our ten Founders came together to establish an organization that would better their university and community. These ten women united together to create a lasting entity. The Ten Rays of Sisterhood, like the ten Founders, form the basis for our sorority. They are the characteristics all sisters work to best exemplify.
